99.3 County FM presents Multi-Part Documentary: Outsmarting the Scammers

For Immediate Release: 99.3 County FM presents Multi-Part Radio Documentary: Outsmarting the Scammers – Helping Seniors Fight Fraud, February 8th through March 14th.

Starting Thursday, February 8, during the noon hour and 6pm re-broadcast of The Grapevine, 99.3 County FM will present a six-part weekly series to provide public education about fraud prevention, with a focus on a wide variety of scams against seniors.

Outsmarting the Scammers – Helping Seniors Fight Fraud will educate listeners on what to watch for, steps to take to avoid being scammed, and what to do if you are a victim of fraud. Partnering with the Prince Edward County Detachment of the OPP, The Prince Edward County Community Care for Seniors Association, and the Municipality of the County of Prince Edward, County FM has created this six-part documentary series as a public service in response to a growing problem.

Constable Aaron Miller, Community Safety/Media Relations Officer stated, “Scammers and their schemes are becoming more sophisticated and successful as the perpetrators get better and better at exploiting your trust. As a community radio station, it’s our job to spread the word, and by this we hope to protect County residents.”

99.3 County FM Chair, Jim JJ Johnston stated, “This is a great opportunity to hear about the types of scams, listen to real  victims’ stories and gain tips on how you can protect yourself. Even if you are not a senior, this information is valuable for protecting yourself and the people that you care for.”

The series, narrated by Wendy Mesley, will each week explore a common type of scam, hear compelling experiences  from victims and their families, and provide tips for prevention. Some names of those interviewed have been changed at their request.

Once broadcast, each episode of the six-part series will be available to stream in its entirety 993countyfm.ca
