CAB Predicts Radio/TV Station Closures, Thousands More Layoffs

The Canadian Association of Broadcasters is predicting the loss of 200 radio stations and as many as 2,000 more jobs cut by 2022.

40 local TV outlets could also disappear as cumulative revenue shortfalls hit more than $1.06 billion by December 2022.

Radio ad revenues for this year are expected to be $383 million lower than last year with advertisers pulling back due to Covid 19.

In their report, CAB indicates that 50 private radio stations could be out of business within six months.
