Big things are in the works at Bay of Islands Radio/CKVB-FM, broadcasting from Western Newfoundland.
But, one thing that isn't changing is our commitment to local news and programming based out of Corner Brook. That's why we're pleased to announce the addition of three full-time on-air staff to bolster our programming lineup. We have some of the most trusted names in local radio set to take to the airwaves soon.
Lenny Benoit, formerly of CFCB, takes on the role of station manager; experienced broadcaster Tonya Organ has joined as a dedicated news reporter; and Dean Clarke, previously with CKGA Gander, will be joining us as an announcer. More positions are expected to be added in the coming weeks.
Since Stingray Radio closed local stations across Newfoundland in March 2022, including CFCB & CKXX-FM in Corner Brook, Bay of Islands Radio has been working continuously through volunteers to fill the void left by the private sector. Now, thanks to stable funding, the station has been able to hire three experienced broadcasters, two of whom were impacted by Stingray's cuts last year.
The station, a non-profit, will also be applying for a power increase from the CRTC in the coming weeks, which will further extend its reach.
