CALGARY, December 4, 2020 – Global Calgary and Global News Radio 770 CHQR are getting in the holiday spirit with two important initiatives this year: Month of Giving and Pledge Day.
With the need for generosity greater than ever this year, Global Calgary is raising funds and driving awareness for four local charities: CUPS Calgary, The Magic of Christmas, Wood’s Homes and The Calgary Food Bank throughout the entire month of December. During its newly-launched Month of Giving campaign, the station is asking Calgarians with the financial means to support the cause by donating – in any amount – to one of the four charities.
More information about each cause, as well as an online donation portal, can be found here.
On the radio side, 770 CHQR is kicking off its annual Pledge Day in support of the Calgary Children’s Foundation on Friday, December 4. The live radiothon runs from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and supports the Calgary Children’s Foundation – an organization that focuses on small, grassroots Calgary-based kids’ charities that do great work in the community. The money raised last Christmas went to a wide range of charities with varying needs, with a strong emphasis on youth mental health, including the Distress Centre’s ConnecTeen line and the Calgary Counselling Centre, among others.
Donations can be made online or over the phone only; visit calgarychildrensfoundation.com or call 403.974.8255 to support the cause.
Listeners can tune-in throughout the day to hear from special guests like Mayor Naheed Nenshi, Premier Jason Kenney, country music artist Paul Brandt and the parents and children who benefited from last year’s radiothon.
