CFMB, Montreal’s iconic ethnic radio station and Canada’s first of its kind, announces the retirement of Lui (Luigi) Valente, Station Manager, after an extraordinary 46-year career.
Throughout his tenure, Lui held a variety of roles, navigating the station through two ownership changes and ultimately earning the top management position.
Founded in 1962 by Casimir Stanczykowski, CFMB has been a trailblazer in multicultural broadcasting, serving Montreal’s diverse communities with programming in multiple languages. Over the decades, it has become a cornerstone of ethnic broadcasting in Canada. After being acquired by Evanov Communications in 2014, Lui was named Station Manager of CFMB with a mandate to provide steady leadership, maintain its relevance and vital connection to its audience, and contend in a very competitive radio market.
Paul Evanov, President and CEO of Evanov Communications, CFMB’s parent company,
reflected on Lui’s remarkable career:
"Lui has been every company’s dream employee: dedicated, loyal, knowledgeable in all
aspects of radio operations, and a true problem solver. We are deeply grateful for his many
contributions and wish him a well-deserved and fulfilling retirement."
Concurrent with Lui’s departure, CFMB will undergo management restructuring, with details to be announced in the coming weeks. Evanov Communications is an independent private Canadian broadcasting company.
