Michael Caine Passes Away

It is with deep sadness that we share news of the passing of our company's CEO, Michael Hall Caine, on July 22nd, 2024.

Michael was a second-generation broadcaster who continued his parents’ legacy (Howard and Jean Caine) in running Oakville-based radio station CHWO (“the White Oaks station”). In 1974, he and Jean founded CJMR, the first station licenced to the newly incorporated city of Mississauga, which later expanded to multicultural programming in 15 languages, embodying the family's dedication to community service. In 2000, he fulfilled a personal ambition by launching AM740 in Toronto, catering to the 50+ audience. Along with creating JOY 1250, the first Christian radio station in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton area. His passion for broadcasting, combined with a sense of fun, made him a remarkable leader in the industry.

Mike’s infectious humour, boundless optimism, and love for storytelling left a lasting impact on all who knew him. He had a unique gift for bringing people together and making them feel at home, whether through a shared laugh or a kind word. His legacy is one of warmth, generosity, and a deep commitment to community and family.

A service celebrating Michael’s life will be held at St. Jude’s Anglican Church, 160 William Street, Oakville, at 2 p.m. on Friday, September 6, 2024.
