Music Programmer - Toronto ON


SiriusXM is looking for a dynamic, passionate music lover to join our team!


The Music Programmer (English) is responsible for showcasing the best of Canadian music, from new and emerging to the classic hits. This role encompasses a range of duties, from coordinating schedules and activities for speciality satellite and digital channels, to hosting/co-hosting, as well as overseeing the day-to-day operation of staff assignments and channel activity. We’re looking for someone with a deep knowledge of Hip-Hop and R&B, who can also shapeshift across other formats/genres. If you’re a music-loving broadcast specialist, read on!


In this role, you will be responsible performing a range of duties, including:


Programming:

  • Coordinate and maintain program schedules in accordance with established procedures and regulatory requirements

  • Maintain channel logs, select, edit, assemble and ingest material into database for airplay

  • Edit audio for radio programming, creating high-quality content related to specialty shows, promotions, liners and other on-air deliverables

  • Monitor related industries for new and emerging material and opportunities

Producing:

  • Plan, organize and coordinate the production of radio programs as required

  • Determine treatment, scope and scheduling of production

  • Coordinate use of available guests related to broadcast content, both in-studio and remote


Hosting and announcing:

  • Acting as host or co-host, select and introduce material for broadcast

  • Conduct research for programs; assist in determining required coverage

  • Act a interviewer, commentator or analyst during broadcasts

  • Cultivate and maintain regular contact with music industry stakeholders


Technical production:

  • Monitor broadcast quality of live and recorded radio programs in accordance with established procedures and scheduling

  • Operate broadcast studio equipment used to record and transmit live and recorded radio programs


Scheduling:

  • Manage regulatory needs for music programming

  • Ingest music and metadata associated with selections in company programming database

  • Edit specialty programming audio


Social Media

  • Monitor individual channel pages

  • Actively engage in posting, blogging; collaborate with internal teams


Other

  • Participate in meetings and prepare status updates as required

  • Contribute to weekly music meetings

  • Perform other duties as assigned


Level of Education

  • Completion of a college radio or television arts program


Job Related Experience

  • 2-5 years’ relevant experience

  • Firm knowledge of CRTC regulations

  • Knowledge of new Canadian music

Skills and Background

  • Ability to operate audio equipment used for live radio programs and broadcasts

  • Strong understanding of music scheduling software required

  • Good understand of various social media platforms and trends

Communications

  • This position requires normal tact and diplomacy when interacting with colleagues, guests and others to complete work activities, as well as the ability to listen attentively and demonstrate sensitivity towards the concerns or interests of others conveying information. Solid written and verbal skills are required to effectively respond to inquiries.
