About the Role:
This is an exciting opportunity for Global News at 640 Toronto as it combines the best of both Reporter and Anchor roles. The successful candidate will share great stories through voicers and on-air talk show opportunities – then shift gears to anchor Ontario newscasts on 640 Toronto, 900 CHML (Hamilton) and 980 CFPL (London). It provides exposure of our talent on both a local and national scale. Other opportunities for this role include exploring podcasting, producing news features and promoting radio content on social media.
Reporting to 640 Toronto’s News Manager at the Corus Quay office in Toronto, the successful candidate would be on-site for working hours of Monday to Friday from 2pm-10pm. On occasion, talent may be required to fill-in for other roles.
You'll be working on things like:
Professionally broadcasting Ontario radio newscasts for Global News
Sharing content of local and/or national interest
Sourcing audio from press conferences and Global News TV reports
Promoting radio news content on social media
Coordinating news, stories and lineups within tight timelines
Conducting interviews from the desk with newsmakers
Reporting through voicers, features, and talk show interview opportunities
Monitoring competition, researching and following-up on story ideas
Flexibility to fill-in as morning anchor, afternoon anchor, or reporter
Other duties as required

Strong news judgement for stories that matter to our audiences
Exceptional news writing, news delivery, and storytelling skills
Previous work experience as a Reporter/Anchor
Proven ability to gather and disseminate news in a timely and accurate manner
Digital and social media expertise, including Facebook, Instagram and Twitter
Passion for news and talk radio
The ability to work collaboratively in a team atmosphere
A positive, friendly manner – approaching challenging situations with empathy and sincerity
Knowledge and familiarity of the Toronto and GTA
Above average computer skills
Knowledge of Burli is an asset
