News Anchor & Reporter, Owen Sound ON (FT)
Bayshore Broadcasting’s stations have been the local voice of Grey & Bruce counties since WWII. For almost 80 years, we have always believed that local news matters, and we are proud to continue to be the voice of record on the local issues that matter to our listeners. That local connection begins in our Owen Sound newsroom, where we have won numerous RTNDA awards over the years, and from which many alumni have gone on to very successful careers in broadcasting across Canada.
We are looking for the next great radio journalist to join our team! This is a full-time position, typically covering three weekdays + two weekend days. It’s a great opportunity for someone just beginning their career in radio news, or for someone looking to get out of the city and find a more relaxed pace of life in one of the most beautiful parts of Ontario. Sound like you?
You would be responsible for:
Anchoring weekend newscasts on multiple stations
Regular reporting shifts and assignments through the week (council, court, desk reporting, breaking news, etc.)
Writing stories for use on-air and for posting on our website/social media platforms.
Covering other anchoring shifts in the newsroom during vacations, illnesses, etc.
Ideally you have spent some time in a radio newsroom before – reporting, writing, and reading newscasts. We use Burli Newsroom software, so you’ll have a leg up if you’re familiar with it. Our website and social media platforms are a big part of what we do now, so you need to be very familiar with Twitter, Facebook, and the ins and outs of how journalism works online in 2020.
You must have a clean Ontario driver’s license (or be ready to do a lot of walking, but be warned – it snows a lot up here).
Tell us why you’re the right fit for this gig! Send us a recent demo along with a resume and cover letter to Matt Hermiz, News Director, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
This position is open now, so send us your application as soon as possible.
