Stratford is a beautiful city on the Avon River, full of gorgeous architecture, and home to the Shakespeare Festival.  It's one of Ontario's premier arts destinations for live theatre, music, museums, and galleries. Every year, theatre lovers flock to Stratford for the annual Stratford Festival, a world-class celebration of all things Shakespeare. The town is also known for its historic Victorian streets, lined with cafés, bistros, and unique shops. Not to be missed is the Stratford Chocolate Trail, a self-guided tour of the town’s chocolatiers.


Position Description:

• Be an active part of the local Stratford and surrounding community

• Develop a writing and air check schedule for all on-air news talent

• Establish a weekly one-on-one call with direct reports within the market(s)

• Responsible for sourcing and writing news stories for multiple markets as required

• Edit and anchor news, sports and weather as assigned

• Liaise with the Director of News to ensure local news content requirements are being fulfilled

• Ensure the work of local news staff aligns with the editorial vision and is in compliance with Canadian journalistic ethics, standards and practices

• Promote a digital newsroom culture with staff—one that embraces industry trends and technological advancements in news programming and delivery, as well as strategies to increase audience engagement and metrics

• Provide news staff with story ideas, coaching and mentoring on localizing large National and international stories

• Utilize social media to build audience and contacts

• Being a positive leader in the building and assisting in creating a winning team attitude

• Represent the station at community/station events


Position Requirements:

• Minimum 7 years working full time in a newsroom or equivalent journalism experience, news management experience considered an asset

• Strong verbal and written communication skills

• Strong on-air delivery

• Knowledge of video and Adobe Premier considered an asset

• Self-starter

• The ability to work within a fast-paced environment both individually and with a team

• A valid driver's license

• Working familiarity with Adobe Audition, Newsroom, and on-air software is a big plus

• Ability to use and excel with social media (Facebook, X, Instagram, etc.)
