As an ideal candidate, you are comfortable producing audio, video, and written content and understand the importance of social media. You develop unique local story ideas designed to inform the community and you engage with newsmakers where they work and play. You understand the importance of speed and accuracy when covering breaking stories.


About the Job:

This is a full-time news reporting and anchoring position based in Courtenay, producing stories for daily on-air newscasts and our websites on Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast. The work requires covering a wide variety of local stories relevant to the audiences in our communities, writing quickly and accurately to post online.

Your attitude is one of responsibility and service, and a genuine interest in the community. As you grow professionally and deepen your ties to the community you will have local and remote supervision, support, and encouragement.


Position Description:

• Become a part of the community, live, work, and play here

• Research and write daily news stories for online and on-air broadcasts

• Produce news audio and video

• Gather actualities both in the field and by phone for newscasts

• Take part in daily news meetings

• Other duties as assigned


 Position Requirements:

• Experience working in a newsroom or equivalent journalism background

• Strong verbal and written communication skills

• Strong on-air delivery

• Superior organizational skills

• Self-starter with a strong news sense

• Ability to work independently and with a team

• A valid driver's license
