Peter Morena Retiring

Updated: Sep 30

Peter Morena, Operations, Brand Manager, PD and MD of RB Communications, Niagara has announced his retirement from 91.7 GIANT FM (CIXL-FM) and COUNTRY 89 (CKYY-FM).

His departure is planned for the end of September.

Originally from Toronto, Pete’s broadcast career started in 1974 at CKDM Dauphin, Manitoba.  He was hired a year later at CHOW in Welland, Ontario to do evenings 6 days a week.  Peter eventually worked his way up to a day time show and then sports director.

He then went to rival stations CHSC/CHRE in St. Catharines for one year and then one more year after that at CHML/CKDS in Hamilton.  His heart belonged in Niagara and returned to CHOW as News/Sports Director.

Peter eventually worked his way into the assistant general managers’ position and oversaw the switch from CHOW AM to 91.7 Spirit FM.  The station was sold and the format was changed from Country to eventually Classic Rock, 91.7 GIANT FM. Again Peter played a key role in the format change.   RB Communications then added a second FM in 2015…Country 89.  Peter was instrumental in all on-air aspects of the launch from hiring staff, to setting up clocks to picking the music.

Peter attributes his success over the past 48 years to everyone he had the opportunity to work with and would like to express his sincere gratitude.

“Absolutely nothing would have been possible without the amazing people who I was privileged to work with.  There are too many to mention and I don’t want to forget anyone.

A special thanks to previousowners including Gordon Burnett, Suzanne Rochon Burnett and David Holgate.
