Career Position: Radio News Director

CKCC 100.7 The Raven is offering an exciting, full-time opportunity for someone looking to join our radio on-air broadcast news department. You will be the news voice for the morning show and lead the growth of news and current event reporting for the station. This job will best suit someone with the ambition and creativity to be a driving force in the growth of a 1.5 year young independent, commercial radio station.

The Raven’s coverage area is the largest in our competitive region and includes the Comox Valley, Campbell River, Powell River, Parksville/Qualicum & surrounding areas in British Columbia. The successful candidate will be responsible for finding and reporting on current topics to then produce and edit for the daily morning show, station social media accounts & the station website. The incumbent will work directly with the Program Director out of our Campbell River studio.


Analyze and interpret relevant local, national & global news and information received from various sources to broadcast the information on daily newscasts

Edit news material to fit within available time or space

Write daily news stories for the station website and social media channels

Cover local news stories in person, by phone, Zoom and other viable methods

Attend meetings of municipal governments, school boards & regional districts

Occasionally travel to communities within our coverage area to cover current events

Establish contacts within the community and make daily calls for information

Be the weekday on-air voice to present news related to current affairs

Work with team to exchange ideas on news topics & coordinate coverage of reports

Perform other assigned tasks as required


Great ease of communication, writing and creativity

Knowledge of Burli Newsroom or a similar news editing system

Ability to draft communications for radio, social & the website

Maturity, calm demeanor & professionalism

Diploma from an accredited program in broadcasting or journalism, or equivalent experience

Being comfortable receiving instructions and willing to learn

Ability to work and meet deadlines with minimal or no supervision

Valid driver’s license (validation of driving record will be required)

Ability to represent CKCC FM with integrity, respect and good judgment

Ability to work as part of a team

Compensation: Competitive within the industry based on experience.
