Work at CBC/Radio-Canada

At CBC/Radio-Canada, we create content that informs, entertains and connects Canadians on multiple platforms. Our successes and accomplishments are driven by embodying and upholding values, which include creativity, integrity, inclusiveness and relevance.

Do you think you have the ability and drive to keep up with this exciting, ever-changing industry? Whether it be in front of the camera, on air, online or behind the scenes, you would be joining a team that thrives on making connections and telling stories that are important to Canadians.

Your role

You will be an accomplished journalist and an excellent writer with a sharp eye for good stories that affect a television audience. You need to be a strong news copy editor, capable of working with some of the most experienced journalists in the business, and with the ability to tackle everything from hard and complicated news where accuracy is critical, to taking on lighter fare.

Reporting to the Executive Producer, you will write copy, voiceovers, live hits, headlines, and promos for our Supper Hour Newscast, and you will vet the work of others. This job also requires identifying, prioritizing, pitching, and writing national and international stories of interest for the television audience. You must be able to find appropriate photos and video to enhance that storytelling.

The successful candidate will demonstrate an understanding and awareness of issues and events particular to British Columbia generally and will have strong ties to, and a deep understanding of, underrepresented communities and equity-deserving groups in British Columbia.

You care about the people you work with and have a deep appreciation for different perspectives, opinions, and experiences. You live and promote the values of diversity, inclusion, and respectful work culture.

You will ensure that all CBC journalistic standards are met and that our stories are fair, balanced, accurate, thoughtful, immediate, and resonate with the communities we serve.

You must be a self-starter and comfortable taking on responsibilities.

What you bring:

• Experience reflecting diverse and contemporary communities

• Strong journalistic skills.

• Substantial experience writing, copy editing, fact-checking, and packaging television news content.

• Knowledge of legal and ethical issues related to journalism.

• Ability to manage large volumes of fast-moving information.

• Excellent news judgment and ability to work effectively under 24/7 newsroom deadline pressure.

• Good communication and interpersonal skills; a strong team player.

• University degree or equivalent.

• Minimum five years of recent experience in a television news environment.

Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing.
