About the Role:
Are you passionate about hockey? Ready to elevate your career and our Oilers Hockey Broadcasts? 630 CHED, the official NHL Rightsholder for The Edmonton Oilers, has a rare opportunity for a full-time Sports Talk Show Host. Based in Edmonton, you will report to the Manager of Talk and Talent, hosting our Oilers Pre and Post shows as well as our weekday Inside Sports show, delivering engaging and entertaining content across all radio station platforms.
Imagine leading CHED Nation, Edmonton’s premier talk, sports, and news powerhouse 630 CHED. We seek a dynamic, full-time weekday Sports Talk Show Host who is well-versed in a wide range of topics, has a relentless curiosity, and, importantly, lives and breathes Oilers Hockey and CFL Football, especially the Edmonton Elks.
As an onsite Talk Show Host at our Edmonton location, you will be naturally interesting and entertaining, seamlessly interacting with our audience on-air, online, and in-person. Your role is to deliver compelling and must listen to content and have a blast doing it.
You will contribute by:
• Host live Oilers pre, post, and intermission shows.
• Host a live sports radio talk show on weeknights (non-game days).
• Research and expertly prepare sports stories for broadcast and digital media.
• Create original angles and approaches to stories.
• Tell engaging stories that are relatable and relevant.
• Record promos and make live promotional appearances.
• Conduct strategic and insightful interviews.
• Engage creatively with listeners, callers, guests, and other Corus content.
• Develop and maintain a network of contacts.
• Represent Corus Radio and 630 CHED as a brand ambassador.
• Meet and exceed ratings expectations.
• Adhere to Canadian Broadcast Standards.
• Collaborate effectively with colleagues, partners, clients, and listeners.
• Perform other duties as required.
Skills and Experience You Bring:
• Post-secondary education (or equivalent experience) in broadcast journalism or a related field.
• Several years of relevant experience in sports radio.
• Compelling storytelling skills with a focus on human-interest aspects
• Outstanding on-air presentation and communication skills.
• Ability to curate stimulating and engaging conversations.
• Excellent research and interviewing skills.
• Comprehensive knowledge of local, national, and international sports
• A unique perspective.
• Proficiency in writing for all platforms and social media.
• Experience with diverse and inclusive storytelling.
• Preferred expertise in audio editing.
• Familiarity with various news gathering software.
• Understanding of WordPress and Canadian Press style preferred.
• Creative, energetic, fun, and outgoing personality.
• Positive attitude and a love for collaboration and teamwork.
• Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to meet strict deadlines and work well under pressure.
