About the Role
The Corus Entertainment/Global News technical team is seeking a candidate for the full-time Team Lead, News Technology position based in our Global Halifax location. Reporting to the Manager, News Technology, the successful candidate will be responsible for leading News Technology technicians on a daily basis. Coupled with this responsibility, you will provide on-going Tier 1 support and maintain the health of on-air and production equipment. This position is ideally suited to an individual who can lead a diverse team of technicians and has an understanding of news production workflows.
Primary functions and responsibilities:
· Provide direction and leadership to the News Technology team in Halifax.
· Work closely with the Manager, News Technology, News Operations and Broadcast Network teams to ensure effective technical support is provided to all departments
· Promote equipment and procedures to accommodate all News workflows.
· Provide leadership for installations and projects.
· Manage and maintain schedules to ensure onsite technical support during all hours of News Production.
· Ensure project quality and installation standards are met.
· Work closely with Technical Management to meet project timelines.
· Ensure broadcast signals are monitored and within current standards.
· Develop and mentor technical staff.
· Work closely with News Operations to grow and develop our News technically.
· Work directly with equipment vendors and suppliers to troubleshoot and repair equipment
· Provide support to building facilities maintenance
· Work with the Manager, New Technology to create and maintain Opex and Capex budgets
· Perform various other duties as required.
About You
What We Need From You:
· Recognized certificate in Broadcast Technology, Electronics, IT Networking or Computer Science or equivalent
· 2 to 5 years of Broadcast Engineering experience or related technology experience
· Strong organizational and decision making skills.
· Motivating leadership and excellent communication.
· Valid driver’s license (abstract may be required)
· The ability to read and comprehend technical drawings and documents
· Demonstrated problem-solving ability to deal with challenging situations.
· Willing and able to adapt to rapidly changing technology and workflows; familiarity with equipment and technology trends.
· Strong knowledge of computers and networking as related to Broadcast systems
· Organized and able to make quick and effective decisions under pressure
· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; able to work independently and cooperatively in a team environment
· Deal with outside vendors or clients, order and track equipment.
· Shift work and on-call is a possibility.
· Previous supervisory experience is an asset.
