TVA Lays Off 547

Citing a changing media landscape, unfair competition, and government inaction, Quebec's TVA has announced it is laying off 547 employees.

The cuts equate to 1/3 of their workforce.

Eliminated are 300 positions in in-house production, 98 operations positions and 149 positions in other departments.

News for all regions will now be broadcast out of Quebec City.

Pierre Karl Péladeau, acting president and CEO of TVA Group and the president and CEO of Quebecor, says TVA's building at 1600 De Maisonneuve Blvd. in Montreal could be turned into social housing.
