SOCAN To Acquire SoundExchange

Hello,
I am pleased to share that SOCAN has entered into a purchase agreement with SoundExchange, subject to regulatory approval, to acquire the Canadian Musical Reproduction Rights Agency (CMRRA), a leading music licensing and royalty collection organization that has served music publishers and music rights holders for more than 50 years.
This proposed acquisition is an important step in a stronger music rights ecosystem, one that provides a more aligned rights administration experience for music creators and publishers, while bringing CMRRA and SOCAN together to support the evolving needs of music creators, publishers, and music users.
For SOCAN licensees, it is business as usual. There are no changes to your existing licensing agreement and processes, or points of contact as a result of today’s announcement.
Together, SOCAN and CMRRA share a commitment to ensuring music creators and publishers are fairly compensated for the use of their work. We believe bringing together two respected Canadian music organizations will position both for continued long-term success.
We will share more information following the conclusion of the acquisition. Thank you for being an important partner in music and supporting the music community.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Brown
Chief Executive Officer
